Member's bio: Natasha Mazurka
Natasha Mazurka is a visual artist and teacher working in Ottawa and has been a member of the EBA since 2009. Her art practise involves paintings and installations that reference visual tropes disseminated through the media of travel tourism. Her artwork recurrently showcases a model of landscape painting that is both an illusion and object. In her work, discussions surrounding the orginal and the authentic are provoked as landscape images are standardized and reproduced through mechanisms of pattern and artifice.
For her work, she has received grants and fellowships for travel, research, and production, including a creation grant from the City of Ottawa. Since the completion of her MFA in 2006 from Concordia University, she has participated in local and international residencies including the Brucebo Fine Art Residency (Sweden), the Vermont Studio Center, and DAïMON (Gatineau, QC). Her work is represented in collections such as the City of Ottawa Fine Art Collection and the Canadian Fine Art Collection of the Gotland Museum in Sweden.
