Enriched Bread Artists Studio
951 Gladstone Avenue
Steps from the new Corso Italia O-Train stop it is easier than ever to visit us during these events.
The Enriched Bread Artists (EBA) is a dynamic not-for-profit, artist-run cooperative that has been fueling Ottawa’s creative scene since 1992. Our studios are located in a heritage building of early 20th-century industrial architecture that was designed by Sydney Comber in 1924. Bread is no longer baked on these premises; The Standard Bread Company eventually gave way to Love Printing, and then finally to the Enriched Bread Artists’ Studios. Relevant to both the artisans of the past and the current tenants is the plaque laid in the front of the building inscribed with the Latin motto Audaces Fortuna Juvat, meaning “Fortune Favours the Bold.”
Inside, among innovative concrete columns and the traces of a century of mixed-use, you will find innovative contemporary art. The 21 artists of EBA have transformed the much-repaired spaces of their industrial home into something unique, if not quite a “white cube,” then perhaps a “white loaf.” In that space they exhibit their experiments and enriched art.
In the Fall, EBA opens even more doors. During Open Studio the public is welcomed inside each studio to explore, connect, and discover the vibrant artists who continue “making” within these historic walls.
